So I was browsing through the various sections of Apartment Therapy, as per usual, when I stumbled across the sort of DIY project that stops you right in your tracks.
Now, if you're like me, you've always wanted to do projects on your own, to make things that you could actually use, but you never knew exactly how to go about starting it, let alone finishing it. Lora Neveu, the genius behind the transformation I'm about to talk about, has no trouble in that area.
It was just one rainy weekend, apparently, when Neveu decided to finally take care of some empty space in her daughter's room, by creating an enchanting and inviting area that every little girl (and big girl alike) would cherish for years to come.
Et Voila:
What was once empty space, then became the coolest nook in the history of ever. Perfect for naps. contemplation, and inspiration, and most importantly: storage (something we're all trying to find more of). And you'll never ever, believe how little it cost to make this dream space a reality: $165. If anyone meets Lora, please tell her to call me so that she can teach me her ways. An empty space like that in my house would remain in the "Before" stage for years before I would ever know what to do with it. She just made it happen!

I've lost count of what number this is on my list of dream kitchens. All I know is: built-in storage in a kitchen island is both a genius and totally inspired idea! To make it even better, that shade of blue is beautiful. It's the perfect accent color for a darker brown countertop and stools! LOVE.
Bonus: Check out those lights! I've never seen any like them, and they just belong in a kitchen like this!
Seriously, how awesome is this kitchen?! It's simple, it's clean, those windows are both fabulous and genius, and I love that there are just the few hints of subtle retro flair.
Check out this design from Elle Decor!
I love this look. I like the shade of green chosen for the walls (though I don't think I'll ever love green enough to paint MY walls that color), and I love all the different mirrors and pictures. I think it certainly takes a skilled decorator to pull off this look. It's hard sometimes decorating eclectically. If you bring in one piece that just doesn't quite fit, it can throw off the whole design.
Also, not sure how I feel about the vases, but I think that they're so quirky, they'd grow on me.
Probably.
Most likely.
Okay, how much do you absolutely love this kitchen? For one, country chic at its finest. And the accent colors chosen? Beautiful!! I love this shade of green, and I wish I could find appliances like those to match!
Gorgeous.
If ever, in the future, I get the opportunity to own a flat in Paris, rest assured that it will look almost exactly like this.
I've gotten, from more than one source, the exclusive trends for this spring. What's hot? Wallpaper!
Honestly, I was a little surprised. I hope you're thinking what I was thinking: how could something that's literally been around for decades, abandoned and virtually forgotten, be a hot trend now, in 2012? Funny you should mention it. I've done a little research, and here's why wallpaper has made such a triumphant comeback:
1. It can change the entire personality of a room, in a matter of hours (depending on how quickly you work.)
If you're looking for a quick fix or a quick theme without paying a professional painter, wallpaper's a great way to go. A ton of designers have expanded their expertise to wallpaper design, and there's always something for everyone. (Might I recommend Cath Kidston? I love everything she does. One of my dream rooms will be COVERED in her beautiful rose-patterned design.)
2. You won't have to buy a ton of paint every time the sun fades your colors. Wallpaper can last for the long haul!
The longevity of Wallpaper is anywhere between five to seven years. You get your money's worth, and a room that could speak for itself, even without any furniture.
3. It's a lot easier than many think to install!
Wallpaper can be fun! And it's pretty easy to do, once you follow the instructions. You'll get the hang of it, and it's smooth sailing from there.
4. If you start to hate it, just tear it down and start from scratch!
No primer, no different paint colors, no painter's tape. Just a new pattern, some glue, and a plan for another fabulous interior masterpiece!
Happy decorating!
